Around the World in 10 Days: The Art of Luxury Travel from London to New York

People often assume that luxury travel is measured by the number of stars a hotel has or how expensive an airline ticket is. After years of travelling for business, I've come to realise that true luxury is something much simpler. It's the feeling that every detail has already been taken care of before you even think about it.

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to travel around the world. Not because I wanted to collect passport stamps or tell people how many countries I had visited, but because I wanted to experience the world's greatest cities as they were meant to be experienced. No rushing from attraction to attraction. No complicated logistics. Just ten unforgettable days, ten remarkable destinations and one carefully planned itinerary.

Living on Kensington High Street makes Heathrow Airport wonderfully convenient, but deciding where to begin was far more difficult than deciding where to fly from. Should I follow the sunrise across Asia or head west across the Atlantic? After weeks of planning, I finally settled on the classic route. New York felt like the perfect opening chapter.

The choice of airline was influenced by a book rather than a price comparison. I had recently finished reading Richard Branson's autobiography Losing My Virginity, and something about his story made me want to experience the airline that challenged convention. Flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class seemed like the perfect way to begin what I hoped would become the journey of a lifetime.

Another reason was Heathrow itself. Virgin's exclusive Upper Class Wing transforms the airport experience. Instead of queues, noise and crowds, everything feels calm, efficient and surprisingly personal. Before I'd even stepped onto the aircraft, I already felt as though my holiday had begun.

Of course, every great journey starts before reaching the airport.

Rather than worrying about parking or booking a last-minute taxi, I opened the Limotak app and book chauffeured airport transfer, which has become my preferred way of arranging airport transportation. As someone who travels frequently, I appreciate consistency more than anything else. Whether I'm travelling in London, New York, Dubai or Tokyo, I know exactly what level of service to expect. The platform now operates in more than 100 countries, making it one of the easiest ways to arrange premium ground transportation almost anywhere in the world.

A perfectly presented Mercedes-Benz S-Class arrived exactly on time outside my apartment. The chauffeur welcomed me by name, loaded my luggage and quietly pulled away into the early London traffic. There is something wonderfully relaxing about sitting in the rear seat of a luxury saloon while the city wakes up around you. You don't think about directions, parking or delays. You simply enjoy the journey.

Several hours later, after an exceptionally comfortable flight, the Manhattan skyline appeared beneath the aircraft.

Waiting outside JFK Airport was another chauffeur, arranged through Limotak, just as effortlessly as the one in London. That moment reminded me how valuable consistency really is. Travelling internationally often means adapting to different standards, different booking systems and different expectations. Here, everything felt familiar despite being thousands of miles from home.

Checking into The Plaza Hotel felt like walking into one of New York's great institutions. Some hotels impress because they're new. Others because they're fashionable. The Plaza needs neither. Its reputation has been built over generations, and stepping through its revolving doors is an experience in itself.

The concierge recommended that I skip the obvious tourist restaurants and instead visit a local burger place called Big Ranch. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of the day. Luxury travel isn't always about tasting the most expensive food. Sometimes it's about discovering places that locals genuinely love.

As evening arrived, I wandered through Central Park while the last sunlight reflected from the skyscrapers surrounding the park. Joggers passed by, musicians played for anyone willing to stop for a moment, and horse-drawn carriages quietly rolled along the pathways. Standing there, I realised that this wasn't simply another business trip or another holiday.

It was the beginning of something I had imagined for years.

Tomorrow another city would be waiting. Another airline. Another remarkable hotel.

But if every day of this journey felt as effortless as the first, I knew this adventure would become one of the greatest memories of my life.
